iNEST Spoke 9 supports the Italian biennial conference on applied and industrial mathematics

It will be held at SISSA from 1st to 5th September. A public lecture and participation of local industries are part of the program

Trieste, 28th August 2025

From artificial intelligence to big data, from digital twins to high-performance computing: these are some of the central themes of the 2025 edition of the biennial conference of the Italian Society for Applied and Industrial Mathematics (SIMAI), which will take place from 1st to 5th September at SISSA in Trieste. The event—supported, among others, by iNEST Spoke 9—will bring together more than 300 experts in mathematical models and methods and their applications to industrial, environmental, and real-world problems. It will also serve as an opportunity to foster interdisciplinary research in applied mathematics, contributing to the training of young scientists, in line with the goals of Cross-Cutting Activity 4.

One of the highlights of SIMAI 2025 will be the public lecture by Wil Schilders, President of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM) and Emeritus Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands). The lecture will take place on 3rd September 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Government Palace in Piazza Unità d’Italia. Entitled Mathematics: A Catalyst for National Prosperity and Sustainable Innovation, and organized with the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the event will address highly topical and impactful scientific issues, showing how mathematics plays a key role in understanding and solving complex real-world problems. In this respect, the initiative aligns with the strategic goals of Cross-Cutting Activity 3, aiming to strengthen the link between scientific research, institutions, and citizens, and to foster a shared culture of innovation and knowledge.

Consistent with this vision are the two sessions dedicated to industries and innovation ecosystems, scheduled for 4th September 2025, starting at 2:30 p.m. in SISSA’s Aula Magna. The first, focusing on innovation ecosystems and the local area, will feature Professors Franco Bonollo (President of the iNEST Consortium) and Angelo Montanari (President of the Scientific Technical Committee), alongside delegates from the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, representatives of SMACT Competence Center, and the ERC (European Research Council). The second session, dedicated to industries and startups, will instead feature speakers from Bio4Dreams, SISSA’s startup FAST Computing, and companies such as Danieli, Lombardi Ingegneria, and Rachael.
