Trieste, 14th February 2025
The plenary meeting of iNEST Spoke 9 was held yesterday at SISSA, bringing together numerous researchers from the School and its Affiliates – the University of Trieste, the University of Padua, and OGS – as well as many of the leading companies involved in projects funded through the two rounds of Cascade Funding Calls.
The morning session was dedicated to these companies, which had the opportunity to present the goals and challenges of their projects to develop Digital Twins and showcase their work’s progress. The presentations began with companies that received funding in the first round of Calls: PLUS Srl with ModeBoat, Transpobank Srl with SoLoDTwIN, ASAC Srl with Farm to Twin to Fork, and AcegasApsAmga SpA with Pinksand. Next, the winning project proposals from the second round were introduced, starting with those from the Mezzogiorno region—G-IDA 2.0 by STRESS Scarl, VETEREA by SPICI Srl, Secure Twelthy by La SIA SpA, and CarDio Twin by Almaviva Digitaltec SpA—followed by those from the Triveneto region—D-SIM by Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche SpA, ROMed2VR by InSilicoTrials Technologies SpA, SILENS by NegroponteLab Srl, and finally GEMINI – GL24 by DBA PRO. SpA.
In the afternoon, a Q&A session allowed companies and researchers to discuss crucial aspects of Digital Twin development. This was followed by presentations of results achieved and initiatives carried out by Spoke 9 within some of iNEST Cross-Cutting Activities.
For Cross-Cutting Activity 1, Spoke 9 Scouting Specialist, Luca Turconi, showcased the excellent results of the first cycle, highlighting two SISSA start-up projects that ranked in the first two places: SINDREL by Audrey Franceschi Biagioni and Sniff-nano by Fabrizio Manzino. This was followed by a presentation of TCube, the generative AI platform developed by Spoke 9 to connect scientists and industries, as part of Cross-Cutting Activity 2. Ottavio Crivaro, responsible for the development of TCube, explained its functionalities and innovative features. Finally, researchers from Spoke 9 who received a Young Researcher Grant had the chance to present the initiatives they have launched thanks to these funds: Federico Pichi from SISSA, Francesca Cairoli from the University of Trieste, and Mattia Fogagnolo and Matteo Zavatteri from the University of Padua.
The event concluded with a presentation by Martina Terconi from Area Science Park, who introduced the audience to the funding opportunities available through the European Digital Innovation Hub.
