Cross-Cutting Activity 4
Cross-Cutting Activity 4 (CC4) is committed to nurturing a new generation equipped with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values essential for shaping a sustainable, inclusive future in Northeastern Italy. To do so, it offers a wide range of activities based on two main pillars: Education and Lifelong Learning.
- Education: Serving as the cornerstone for empowering students to become active, responsible citizens, education within CC4 transcends traditional boundaries. It is a transformative journey that imparts knowledge and cultivates critical thinking, creativity, and a sense of social responsibility. The minors, challenges, and Erasmus initiatives led by the CC4 team will focus on the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that enable people to contribute to and benefit from an inclusive and sustainable future.
- Lifelong Learning: As a catalyst for societal transformation, Lifelong Learning is not just an option but a strategic imperative within CC4. By embracing continuous learning, individuals can adapt to the evolving demands of the modern world, driving innovation and prosperity within their communities.
CC4 has identified several challenges that highlight the urgency of its mission. From bridging educational divides to fostering innovation within small and medium enterprises (SMEs), this Cross-Cutting Activity is dedicated to overcoming barriers and unlocking the full potential of the Italian Northeastern region.
Spoke 9 initiatives: an empowering program
To realize its ambitious vision, iNEST has developed a comprehensive plan for Education and Lifelong Learning initiatives, designed to inspire, empower, and transform. From personalized guidance and counseling to innovative educational pathways and interdisciplinary collaborations, CC4 initiatives are tailored to meet the diverse needs of learners at every stage of life.
Within CC4, Spoke 9 has proposed a series of initiatives specifically targeted at improving awareness and knowledge around Digital Twins.
In support of these transformative initiatives, iNEST has earmarked a total budget of €750,000, with SISSA receiving €90,000 in funding.
Digital Twins for a Sustainable Economy
This course provides a holistic understanding of Digital Twins, from fundamental concepts and physical modeling to advanced AI applications and real-world case studies. Participants will leave equipped with the knowledge and practical skills to apply Digital Twins in their research and development projects, contributing to a sustainable economy.
Mixed and Stabilized Finite-Element Methods
Taught by Prof. Ramon Codina, one of the world’s leading experts in the field, this course organized by the University of Padua introduces PhD students to stabilized mixed formulations for partial differential problems. Focusing on practical applications in computational mathematics, physics, and engineering, participants gain a deep understanding of finite-element approximation and stabilization techniques.
PhD for Innovation
This initiative from the SISSA Valorisation and Innovation Office offers PhD students the opportunity to work on innovation challenges posed by industrial partners. Students thus develop soft skills such as time management, teamwork, and effective communication, while industries benefit from access to cutting-edge techniques and innovative solutions.
School on High-Fidelity Modeling and Simulations for Digital Twins
Led by Andrea Cangiani, Alberto Maspero, and Gianluigi Rozza, this initiative addresses the challenges inherent in deploying Digital Twins with a focus on high-fidelity modeling. The school aims to provide practical solutions to complex challenges, equipping practitioners and early-career researchers with essential knowledge and skills for enhancing industrial processes.
