This weekend in Trieste: the European workshop on finite element methods
Supported by iNEST Spoke 9, it fosters dialogue between young researchers and experts in the field of numerical computation
Trieste, 20th May 2025
The 2025 edition of the European Finite Element Fair (EFEF) will take place this Friday and Saturday at the campus of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste. The event is organized by SISSA with the support of Spoke 9 of iNEST.
EFEF is a series of workshops dedicated to the finite element method, a fundamental numerical technique for solving partial differential equations, widely used in the modeling of complex physical and engineering phenomena. The topic is fully aligned with the research activities of Spoke 9, particularly in the development of high-fidelity predictive models.
The event is known for its informal and inclusive format: each participant may propose a presentation, and all speakers are given equal speaking time, with the order of talks determined at random. This structure encourages an egalitarian exchange of ideas, fostering creativity and collaboration among researchers at different stages of their careers. In this respect, EFEF reflects the goals of iNEST Cross-Cutting Activity 4, which promotes horizontal learning environments where innovation emerges from open dialogue between generations and areas of expertise.
